Personal Finance Management Tools
3 open source personal finance apps you can self-host. Compare Mint, YNAB, and Copilot alternatives for budgeting, tracking, and net worth. Updated Sept 2026.
Firefly III
Firefly III is an open-source personal finance manager built on a double-entry ledger, and a self-hosted alternative to Mint. Every transaction moves money between accounts, so balances always reconcile. A companion Data Importer pulls transactions from CSV files and bank-sync providers (GoCardless, SimpleFIN, Spectre), and a rules engine categorizes them on the way in.
Actual Budget
Actual Budget is an open-source, local-first personal finance app built around zero-based (envelope) budgeting, and a self-hosted alternative to YNAB. Every budget is a local file that works fully offline, with optional end-to-end encrypted sync across devices. It imports transactions by file or bank-sync integrations and includes rules, scheduled transactions, and reporting.
