Grafana
Description
Grafana is an open-source observability and data-visualization platform, and a self-hostable alternative to Datadog, New Relic, and Grafana Cloud. It connects to dozens of data sources and turns metrics, logs, and traces into shared, interactive dashboards, with unified alerting, annotations, and role-based access. Teams run it beside Prometheus, Loki, and Tempo to build a full observability stack on their own infrastructure.
Features
- Unified dashboards: Visualize metrics, logs, and traces side by side with a rich panel library and templating variables.
- Many data sources: First-class support for Prometheus, Loki, Elasticsearch, InfluxDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, CloudWatch, and more.
- Alerting: Define alert rules against any data source and route notifications to Slack, PagerDuty, email, and webhooks.
- Explore mode: Ad-hoc querying for incident investigation without building a dashboard first.
- Provisioning as code: Manage dashboards, data sources, and alerts through files or the API.
- Extensible: Plugin ecosystem for panels, data sources, and apps.
Technology Stack
- Go backend with a TypeScript / React front end
- SQLite, MySQL, or PostgreSQL for configuration storage
- Docker, Kubernetes (Helm), or native packages for deployment
Requirements
- A server or container runtime (Docker or Kubernetes)
- A supported database for anything beyond single-node evaluation
- One or more data sources such as Prometheus or Loki to visualize
