Cross-platform, secure password manager with a local encrypted database
Overview
Description
KeePassXC is a cross-platform, community-driven password manager that keeps your entire credential database in a single encrypted file you control, with no cloud account required. It's a desktop-first alternative to subscription password managers for people who want their vault stored locally.
Features
- Local Encrypted Database: Stores all credentials in a single AES/ChaCha20-encrypted
.kdbxfile. - Browser Integration: Auto-fills logins in Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers via an extension.
- TOTP Support: Generates two-factor authentication codes directly inside the vault.
- SSH Agent Integration: Serves SSH keys stored in the vault to your system's SSH agent.
- Password Generator: Creates strong, customizable passwords and passphrases on demand.
- Secure Notes & Attachments: Stores notes, files, and custom fields alongside each entry.
Technology Stack
Written in C++ with a Qt-based user interface. Database format is compatible with the original KeePass .kdbx standard, so vaults are portable across compatible clients.
Requirements
Windows, macOS, or Linux; roughly 100 MB disk space; no server or internet connection required since the database is entirely local (optional cloud sync via Dropbox, Nextcloud, etc. is user-configured).
