Open-source tool that records real API traffic and replays it as tests with auto-generated mocks for databases and external services.

Overview

What is Keploy?

Keploy is an open-source (Apache-2.0) testing platform for backend services. It records real API traffic, including the database queries, queue messages and external HTTP calls each request triggers, and replays it as tests with auto-generated mocks. Teams get production-like test sandboxes, virtualized dependencies and regression tests in CI, without writing test code or running live dependencies.

Key features

  • Record and replay: run your app with keploy record and real API flows are captured as tests and mocks.
  • Dependency mocking (service virtualization): records databases (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB), queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and external APIs, then replays them as mocks.
  • No code changes: uses eBPF to capture traffic, so no SDKs or code changes are needed.
  • Regression testing in CI: replay recorded tests on every change to catch breaking behavior.
  • Cross-platform: runs on Linux, macOS and Windows.

Getting started

Install Keploy:

curl --silent -O -L https://keploy.io/install.sh && source install.sh

Record tests and mocks by running your app through Keploy:

keploy record -c "CMD_TO_RUN_APP"

Replay them as tests:

keploy test -c "CMD_TO_RUN_APP" --delay 10

Note: keploy record and keploy test require a free Keploy account.
