Appsmith
Description
Appsmith is an open-source low-code platform and a self-hostable alternative to Retool for building internal tools, admin panels, and dashboards. It connects to relational and NoSQL databases plus any REST or GraphQL API, provides a drag-and-drop canvas with a large widget library, and lets developers drop into JavaScript for logic and data transformation. The Community Edition is Apache-2.0 licensed and free to self-host with no user limits.
Features
- Visual UI builder: Drag-and-drop widgets — tables, forms, charts, maps — bound to queries and JS.
- Data connectors: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, REST, GraphQL, Google Sheets, S3, and 40+ more.
- JavaScript everywhere: Write JS in any input field, plus reusable JS Objects for shared logic.
- Git sync: Version-control apps and collaborate through your own Git repository.
- Access control: Granular RBAC, SSO, and audit logs (SSO/RBAC in the paid tier).
- Self-hosted or cloud: Docker, Kubernetes (Helm), or AWS/DigitalOcean images.
Technology Stack
- Java (Spring Boot) backend

- MongoDB for application metadata, Redis for caching
- Docker / Kubernetes for deployment
Requirements
- Docker and Docker Compose, or a Kubernetes cluster
