Modern, multi-threaded in-memory data store compatible with Redis

Overview

Description

Dragonfly is a modern in-memory data store designed as a drop-in replacement for Redis and Memcached. Its multi-threaded, shared-nothing architecture delivers dramatically higher throughput and lower memory overhead on the same hardware, while remaining compatible with existing Redis clients and commands.

Features

  • Redis API Compatible: Works with existing Redis clients and commands with no code changes.
  • Multi-Threaded Core: Scales across all CPU cores instead of running single-threaded like Redis.
  • Lower Memory Overhead: Uses a more efficient data structure layout to cut RAM usage significantly.
  • Snapshotting: Takes consistent point-in-time snapshots without blocking traffic.
  • Vertical Scalability: Handles millions of ops/sec on a single, larger instance instead of sharding.
  • Cache & Data Store: Serves as both a cache and a durable primary data store.

Technology Stack

Core engine written in C++ using a custom shared-nothing, multi-threaded architecture. Speaks the Redis and Memcached wire protocols, so it works with existing drivers in any language.

Requirements

Linux (Docker supported); x86_64 with modern CPU instructions; RAM sized to your working dataset; works as a direct replacement wherever a Redis or Memcached endpoint is expected.
