Open-source AI resume builder with a self-hosted agent. Local-first editor with 20 ATS-friendly templates, live print preview, AI-proposed edits you accept one by one, and PDF export.

Overview

Description

Magic Resume is an open-source, MIT-licensed AI resume workbench. It pairs a local-first resume editor with Polaris, a self-hosted AI agent that proposes edits in place so you can accept or skip each one. There is no account and no server-side resume library: resumes live in your browser's IndexedDB, and the AI calls the model provider you configure with your own API key. Not to be confused with the separate magicv.art project of the same name.

Features

  • Live Print Preview: The page re-renders as you type, and PDF, PNG, or JSON exports match exactly what you see.
  • 20 ATS-Friendly Templates: Each with its own color, font, density, spacing, and layout controls on A4 or Letter paper.
  • AI Edits as Diffs: Polaris shows every proposed change on the canvas with a reason, and nothing is saved until you accept it.
  • Job-Specific Skills: Create a resume from scratch, optimize it for a job description, score role fit, analyze, or translate it.
  • Import Any Resume: Reads PDF, Word, images, Markdown, or plain text, with a vision model for scanned documents.
  • Bring Your Own Model: Works with any OpenAI-compatible API; keys are encrypted in the browser and never stored on the server.

Technology Stack

A pnpm and Turborepo monorepo. The editor uses Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI, Tiptap, and React-PDF; the agent runs on Fastify with LangGraph, LangChain, DeepAgents, and SQLite. An MCP server lets Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor edit resumes.

Requirements

Docker with Compose v2 to run the editor and agent together, plus an API key for an OpenAI-compatible model provider. Local development needs Node.js and pnpm.
