Open-source helpdesk combining shared inbox, live chat, and knowledge base with a built-in AI assistant

Overview

Description

opendesk is an open-source helpdesk that brings support email, live chat, and a public help center into one shared inbox, with every change synced live across the team. It ships as a hosted service and as a self-hosted install running the exact same code. Ollie, the built-in AI assistant, drafts replies, triages tickets, and answers from your knowledge base using Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible, or local models.

Features

  • Shared Inbox: Tickets with status, priority, assignee, team, tags, and SLA tracking, plus notes, merging, snoozing, and bulk editing.
  • Live Chat: An embeddable website widget with identity verification, typing indicators, and real-time message delivery.
  • Knowledge Base: Collections and articles you publish to a public help center for self-serve support.
  • AI Assistant: Ollie drafts, summarizes, triages, translates, and answers chats from your knowledge base.
  • Automations & SLAs: Rules that run on ticket events, with response and resolution targets per priority.
  • Integrations & API: Native integrations with Linear, GitHub, Jira, Sentry, Slack, and Stripe, plus a REST API, signed webhooks, a realtime socket, and MCP server support.

Technology Stack

Go powers the API, background jobs, and embedded NATS event relay; an Elixir gateway handles realtime delivery to browsers; Postgres is the database; Caddy terminates TLS and routes traffic. Self-hosted deployments run the full stack via Docker Compose behind a single domain.

Requirements

Self-hosting needs a Linux server with Docker and Docker Compose (a one-line install script handles setup). Local development additionally requires Go, Node.js with pnpm, and Elixir.
