Privacy-first metasearch engine that aggregates results with no tracking
Overview
Description
SearXNG is a free, open-source metasearch engine that aggregates results from dozens of search services into one page without tracking or profiling users. Self-hosted or run on a public instance, it offers a privacy-first alternative to Google and Bing with no ads, no filter bubbles, and no stored search history.
Features
- No Tracking: Never logs IP addresses, search history, or builds user profiles.
- Multi-Engine Aggregation: Pulls results from 70+ search engines including Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo.
- Customizable Engines: Lets you enable, disable, and weight individual search engines per category.
- Search Categories: Separates results into general, images, videos, news, maps, and more.
- Public & Private Instances: Runs as a personal self-hosted instance or joins the public instance network.
- Bang Syntax & API: Supports shortcuts to specific engines and a JSON API for integrations.
Technology Stack
Built in Python using the Flask framework, with Redis for caching search results. Deploys via Docker, a standalone Python install, or behind nginx/uWSGI for production.
Requirements
Linux server or Docker; Python 3.9+ for a manual install; Redis for result caching; minimal RAM (under 1 GB for personal use, more for high-traffic public instances).
