Web-based continuous localization platform with Git integration
Overview
Description
Weblate is a web-based, continuous localization platform that ties translation work directly into your version control workflow. Translators work in a browser-based editor with suggestions, glossaries, and quality checks, while every change syncs back to your Git, Mercurial, or other VCS repository automatically.
Features
- VCS Integration: Syncs translations directly with Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Mercurial repositories.
- Translation Memory: Suggests reused translations automatically across projects and languages.
- Quality Checks: Flags inconsistent placeholders, punctuation, and formatting before merge.
- Machine Translation: Integrates with DeepL, Google Translate, and other MT engines for drafts.
- Component Discovery: Automatically detects new translatable files added to a repository.
- Fine-Grained Access Control: Manages per-project and per-language translator permissions.
Technology Stack
Backend built in Python with Django, using Celery for background jobs and PostgreSQL for storage. Supports dozens of file formats including gettext PO, JSON, YAML, and Android XML.
Requirements
Linux server or Docker; PostgreSQL database; Redis for caching and task queues; at least 1 GB RAM for small projects, more for large translation memories.
